Review: Wake In Fright

Wake in Fright is an amazing film, nominated for the Cannes Palme d’Or when it as first released.  The movie is directed by Ted Kotcheff, and released in 1971, and based on the Kenneth Cook novel of the same name.  The original negatives were recently found, and the movie has been restored and re-released recently.

If you are a fan of dark, disturbing films that have an extremely homo-erotic vibe, Wake in Fright is the movie you should add to your wishlist.  From the beginning of the film where a lonely schoolteacher is thrust into a large bar full of only men, mostly shirtless, to the end of the film in which a drunken man-man sex overnighter happens, this film is hot!  You also get to see a beautiful shot of Gary Bond's beautiful behind!  Bond's butt as he lies flat on the bed with a blistering hangover is worth the price of admission.  This particular scene also is the beginning of his character, John Grant's, descent into his own personal hell of misery and self-questioning in the Australian Outback.  You will be absolutely mesmerized by this film.

Military Rough Trade - A Proud Tradition

My first year out of the house was at a Catholic university in a medium sized Great Lakes city.  As a freshman, I was somehow placed on the ROTC floor of the only all-male dorm.  Trust me, I wasn't complaining too much.  My roommate was from a small town and was into fishing and hunting.  He was preparing to join the Navy after he graduated.  The rest of the floor was a varying assortment of mostly hot, all masculine, and very boisterous 18 and 19 year olds who were lucky enough to be going to school prior to entering the military life full time.  I can't say that I hooked up with any of them during those semesters (I was a bit geeky and had no game at that point in my life - in fact I was also dating a girl that year), but I did get plenty of JO fantasy material just by hanging out in the hallway.

Introductory Post - All Things Rough Trade!

I learned exactly what Rough Trade was during my formative high school years.  As I was curious and wondering about my own sexuality (pre-Internet, of course), I read as many books as I could find in my small public library during my junior and senior years of high school.  The town I grew up in had two well known persons associated with it, and each in his own way heightened my own curiosity about men who have anonymous and/or non-romantic sexual liaisons with available hot straight guys.

James Dean

Yes, James Dean was a heart throb, but he was also rumored to be bisexual.  I wonder where those rumors came from?  To my knowledge not one rumor has been confirmed, but still I thought a lot about James Dean as a teen myself, with his imagery everywhere and growing up around people who actually knew him or his family.
